Poka Laenui pledges his allegiance to the sovereign nation of Hawaii, not to the United States government. "To understand how and why, you will need to know the history of Hawaii, particularly that part dealing with the `annexation' of Hawaii to the United States," wrote Laenui, a director of the Institute for the Advancement of Hawaiian Affairs. "You will also have to understand something about growing up in Hawaii and the sense of betrayal and anger one feels at learning the history. "For me, the movement began with the awakening of my spirit when I read Queen Liliuokalani's `Hawaii's Story.' I read first with curiosity, followed by confusion, then much anger and finally resolve of what needed to be done." It's a story of money, power and betrayal. Hawaii was a proud and independent nation when Capt. James Cook waded ashore in 1778. Hawaiians had run their own affairs for some 2,000 years. The kingdom signed trade and peace treaties with the United States, England and other foreign nations, each recognizing Hawaii's independence. Flocks of American missionaries began arriving from Boston in 1820 and were welcomed warmly; many decided to stay on the islands rather than return to the frigid Northeast. Their new roots in paradise went deep: The missionaries became powerful sugar planters and politicians, often serving as advisers to the king. The monarchy was weakened. The planters' powers were strengthened. The United States was the biggest market for Hawaii's sugar. The transplanted planters longed for Hawaii to become part of the United States so they wouldn't have to worry about tariffs. The U.S. minister to Hawaii, John L. Stevens, was anxious to annex the islands as well. Sensing this, Queen Liliuokalani was on the verge of imposing a new Constitution shifting power back to the monarchy - but she never got the chance. On Jan. 16, 1893, U.S. Marines landed in Honolulu armed with Howitzer cannons and carbines. A group of 18 men - mostly American sugar farmers - staged a coup, proclaiming themselves the "provisional government" of Hawaii. Stevens gave immediate recognition to them as Hawaii's true government. Imprisoned in Iolani Palace, Queen Liliuokalani issued a statement: "I yield to the superior force of the United States of America, whose minister, his excellency John L. Stevens, has caused United States troops to be landed at Honolulu. ... Now, to avoid any collision of armed forces and perhaps the loss of life, I do, under this protest, and impelled by said force, yield my authority until such time as the government of the United States shall undo the action of its representative and reinstate me." President Grover Cleveland investigated the coup and fired Stevens. He apologized to the queen. And on Dec. 18, 1893, he briefed Congress on his findings: "By an act of war, committed with the participation of a diplomatic representative of the United States and without authority of Congress, the government of a feeble but friendly and confiding people has been overthrown," Cleveland said. "A substantial wrong has thus been done, which a due regard for our national character, as well as the rights of the injured people, requires we should endeavor to repair." Cleveland refused to approve the annexation of Hawaii. Soon, however, he was out of office, and President William McKinley gave it his blessing. Said Sam Monet, a staunch independence proponent: "The Kingdom of Hawaii has never ceased to exist. No peace treaty between the U.S. and the kingdom of Hawaii has been signed. A state of war between the U.S. and the kingdom of Hawaii exists today."

Real-time holography

The discussion above describes "conventional" holography, whereas the steps of recording, developing and reconstruction are performed independently or at different times in sequence. Also, the recording medium for conventional holography is typically film so that the hologram is permanently formed. This static recording notion is, in fact, similar to a photograph, which is also a permanent recording of image information. Thus, once formed, the hologram is "fixed," or unchangable.

Beyond conventional holography, there exists a technique whereby all the steps used to form a hologram are performed simultaneously in a material that can be refreshed. That is, the steps of recording, developing and reconstruction all take place at the same time (not sequentially). Moreover, the material used for this novel hologram is not film, but a material with properties which allow continuous updating of the hologram making the hologram dynamic so that the image information which records the hologram can change and the reconstructed output can also track, or change, simultaneously.

Such a dynamic hologram is called a "real-time hologram." The material that replaces film must also be capable of changing in response to a varying set of recording beams and input image information. Examples of such materials are referred to as "nonlinear optical materials," and can be realized using a variety of media such as photorefractive crystals, atomic vapors and gases, semiconductors (including "quantum wells"), plasmas and, even liquids. In this case, the local absorption and/or phase in the nonlinear material will be "exposed," and will "track" changes in the interference pattern formed by the recording beams. As the interference pattern changes, the local absorption and/or phase pattern in the material will also change and replace the original pattern. Beyond these "passive" materials, the dynamic media can also be in the form of "active" electro-optical devices, such as spatial light modulators (SLMs). In this case, the pixelated image-bearing input port serves as the "dynamic recording material," whereas the pixelated output of the device (e.g., the output display, or projection port) functions as the effective holographic reconstruction port. Currently, SLMs involve the use of liquid crystal layers as well as micro-electrical mechanical (MEMS) technologies as the pixelated image-bearing output (projection) port. The pattern imposed onto the input port of the SLM will give rise to a corresponding output pattern, as read out by the reconstruction beam. By virtue of the SLM, the output, or reconstruction, beam will be spatially encoded as a corresponding amplitude, phase or polarization pixelated mapping of the input image.

When Seeing and Hearing Isn't Believing

"Gentlemen! We have called you together to inform you that we are going to overthrow the United States government." So begins a statement being delivered by Gen. Carl W. Steiner, former Commander-in-chief, U.S. Special Operations Command.

At least the voice sounds amazingly like him.

But it is not Steiner. It is the result of voice "morphing" technology developed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.

By taking just a 10-minute digital recording of Steiner's voice, scientist George Papcun is able, in near real time, to clone speech patterns and develop an accurate facsimile. Steiner was so impressed, he asked for a copy of the tape.

Steiner was hardly the first or last victim to be spoofed by Papcun's team members. To refine their method, they took various high quality recordings of generals and experimented with creating fake statements. One of the most memorable is Colin Powell stating "I am being treated well by my captors."

"They chose to have him say something he would never otherwise have said," chuckled one of Papcun's colleagues.

A Box of Chocolates is Like War

Most Americans were introduced to the tricks of the digital age in the movie Forrest Gump, when the character played by Tom Hanks appeared to shake hands with President Kennedy.

For Hollywood, it is special effects. For covert operators in the U.S. military and intelligence agencies, it is a weapon of the future.

"Once you can take any kind of information and reduce it into ones and zeros, you can do some pretty interesting things," says Daniel T. Kuehl, chairman of the Information Operations department of the National Defense University in Washington, the military's school for information warfare.

Digital morphing — voice, video, and photo — has come of age, available for use in psychological operations. PSYOPS, as the military calls it, seek to exploit human vulnerabilities in enemy governments, militaries and populations to pursue national and battlefield objectives.

To some, PSYOPS is a backwater military discipline of leaflet dropping and radio propaganda. To a growing group of information war technologists, it is the nexus of fantasy and reality. Being able to manufacture convincing audio or video, they say, might be the difference in a successful military operation or coup.

Allah on the Holodeck

Pentagon planners started to discuss digital morphing after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Covert operators kicked around the idea of creating a computer-faked videotape of Saddam Hussein crying or showing other such manly weaknesses, or in some sexually compromising situation. The nascent plan was for the tapes to be flooded into Iraq and the Arab world.

The tape war never proceeded, killed, participants say, by bureaucratic fights over jurisdiction, skepticism over the technology, and concerns raised by Arab coalition partners.

But the "strategic" PSYOPS scheming didn't die. What if the U.S. projected a holographic image of Allah floating over Baghdad urging the Iraqi people and Army to rise up against Saddam, a senior Air Force officer asked in 1990?

According to a military physicist given the task of looking into the hologram idea, the feasibility had been established of projecting large, three-dimensional objects that appeared to float in the air.

But doing so over the skies of Iraq? To project such a hologram over Baghdad on the order of several hundred feet, they calculated, would take a mirror more than a mile square in space, as well as huge projectors and power sources.

And besides, investigators came back, what does Allah look like?

The Gulf War hologram story might be dismissed were it not the case that washingtonpost.com has learned that a super secret program was established in 1994 to pursue the very technology for PSYOPS application. The "Holographic Projector" is described in a classified Air Force document as a system to "project information power from space ... for special operations deception missions."

War is Like a Box of Chocolate

Voice-morphing? Fake video? Holographic projection? They sound more like Mission Impossible and Star Trek gimmicks than weapons. Yet for each, there are corresponding and growing research efforts as the technologies improve and offensive information warfare expands.

Whereas early voice morphing required cutting and pasting speech to put letters or words together to make a composite, Papcun's software developed at Los Alamos can far more accurately replicate the way one actually speaks. Eliminated are the robotic intonations.

The irony is that after Papcun finished his speech cloning research, there were no takers in the military. Luckily for him, Hollywood is interested: The promise of creating a virtual Clark Gable is mightier than the sword.

Video and photo manipulation has already raised profound questions of authenticity for the journalistic world. With audio joining the mix, it is not only journalists but also privacy advocates and the conspiracy-minded who will no doubt ponder the worrisome mischief that lurks in the not too distant future.

"We already know that seeing isn't necessarily believing," says Dan Kuehl, "now I guess hearing isn't either."

"Most Americans were introduced to the tricks of the digital age in the movie Forrest Gump, when the character played by Tom Hanks appeared to shake hands with President Kennedy.
For Hollywood, it is special effects. For covert operators in the U.S. military and intelligence agencies, it is a weapon of the future.
"Once you can take any kind of information and reduce it into ones and zeros, you can do some pretty interesting things," says Daniel T. Kuehl, chairman of the Information Operations department of the National Defense University in Washington, the military's school for information warfare.
Digital morphing — voice, video, and photo — has come of age, available for use in psychological operations. PSYOPS, as the military calls it, seek to exploit human vulnerabilities in enemy governments, militaries and populations to pursue national and battlefield objectives.
To some, PSYOPS is a backwater military discipline of leaflet dropping and radio propaganda. To a growing group of information war technologists, it is the nexus of fantasy and reality. Being able to manufacture convincing audio or video, they say, might be the difference in a successful military operation or coup.

Pentagon planners started to discuss digital morphing after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Covert operators kicked around the idea of creating a computer-faked videotape of Saddam Hussein crying or showing other such manly weaknesses, or in some sexually compromising situation. The nascent plan was for the tapes to be flooded into Iraq and the Arab world.
The tape war never proceeded, killed, participants say, by bureaucratic fights over jurisdiction, skepticism over the technology, and concerns raised by Arab coalition partners.
But the "strategic" PSYOPS scheming didn't die. What if the U.S. projected a holographic image of Allah floating over Baghdad urging the Iraqi people and Army to rise up against Saddam, a senior Air Force officer asked in 1990?
According to a military physicist given the task of looking into the hologram idea, the feasibility had been established of projecting large, three-dimensional objects that appeared to float in the air.
The Gulf War hologram story might be dismissed were it not the case that washingtonpost.com has learned that a super secret program was established in 1994 to pursue the very technology for PSYOPS application. How They Did the Plane Trick at WTC2

Last summer I was at a family wedding and brother Rod was doing his magic show that evening. Not far into the show a child four seats away said, “That’s not magic, that’s a trick.”

Exactly. Same thing with the airplane show the government put on September 11, 2001. I have been trying to figure out how these manipulators did the WTC 2 trick for over a year now and I think I have figured it out.

Because of the element of surprise, the WTC 1 hoax at 8:46 a.m. did not have to be very good but WTC 2 at 9:03 a.m. had to be good because so many were watching and listening. This is where the criminals used considerable psy-op “magic.”

The analytical problem is how to reconcile two things: physical impossibility with credible eyewitness testimony. Of course the conventional government/media story is impossible: no aluminum airliner could crash into the towers, crumple not one bit and disappear. Yet we have the fact that many witnesses swear they saw such a magic act that morning, especially the alleged crash at the south tower.

Caution is in order, of course, since physical evidence trumps eyewitness reports and testimony in lower Manhattan was all over the place. A damning example of conflicting testimony and central mind control at work was ABC News anchors overruling their reporter on scene at WTC who never heard or saw a plane coming into the south tower.

Reporter: “…Oh my God.”

Anchor Charles Gibson: “That looks like a second plane has just hit…

R: “I did not see a plane go in. That, that just exploded. I…”

A: “We just saw another plane coming in from the side.”

R: “You did? That was out my view.”

A: “You could see the plane come in just from the righthand side of the screen…”

Marcus Icke considered 41 eyewitness reports from the south tower who claim to have seen an aircraft collide with WTC 2. Many were interviewed that day (more reliable) while others were interviewed later. No one reported seeing a Boeing 767-200 series with United Airlines livery crashing into the tower, an extremely strict standard, but all seemed to report some type of aircraft crashing into the tower. Many reported an aircraft vanished inside the tower. Since this is physically impossible for a real plane, these witnesses were lying or deluded. Some lied (I have my nominees) and some may have been duped. A delusion would be the result of some kind of trickery that remains hidden from researchers. The range of possibilities runs from an airplane fly-by of some kind coordinated with timed explosions inside the tower to David Copperfield on scene. No kidding. He has “disappeared a train” and the Statute of Liberty so maybe he put his mind to work on “disappearing a Big Boeing.”

Free media is an important institution in a democracy. The media in a
democratic society must be responsible for conveying the sort of facts and
analysis that is necessary for an informed perspective of the issues at
hand. The public that watches television, listens to radio and reads
newspapers and magazines depends on journalists to tell them the truth and
offer honest opinion as they see it. The media has a strong influence on
the public political thinking by ascribing social acceptance to some ideas
and rejection of others.

The media has the power of rearranging the priorities of the issues among
the public. It can focus on a subject that looks irrelevant at first
glance, and after frequent coverage, it can be elevated in importance in
the minds of the public. The US media was very effective in swaying public
opinion to support the government policies toward Iraq by provoking the
emotions of fear, anger, and patriotism prior to Iraq invasion. The media
provides the decision makers with issues that need to be addressed.
Bernard Cohen, an expert on governments in action, states that many
employees in the US State Department arrive early in their offices to read
New York Times to prepare for their reports about the issues of the day.
Since the outlook of the United States government and the American people
bears directly on whether a fair solution to the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict can be achieved, US news media that is the source of information
about the conflict is essential factor in the peace process. The US media
must have its share of the blame if a just peace is not
achieved.Unfortunately, in covering the Palestinian conflict, the US media
has betrayed the public trust and corrupted its own profession by
suppressing information for the sake of a political agenda biased against
the Palestinians. It failed to identify the Palestinians as dispossessed
and oppressed people not terrorists. The Palestinians are either living
under occupation or in refugee camps and a sizable minority treated as
second class citizens inside Israel. The media failed to identify Israel's
violations of the international laws in the occupied territories. It never
reported that the Israeli violence against the Palestinians exceeds
Palestinian violence against the Israelis by many folds. The International
Red Cross and human rights organizations have been deploring the daily
killing and detention of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank by the
Israeli incursions by land and air.

New York Times "incorporates a rejection of evenhandedness" in its
coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict according to the global
studies academics Howard Friel and Richard Falk. When human rights
organizations demand neither side to attack the other, and Israel fires
more than ten artillery high-explosive shells mostly on civilian targets
in Gaza for every home made Qassam rocket fired by Palestinian armed
groups that kill no Israelis, the Times condemns only one side, the
Palestinians. It accuses Hamas of playing the "provocateurs' game", thus
justifying killing and injuring hundreds of civilians including children,
and the Times did not criticize the US veto of the UN cease-fire
resolution that would stop the bloodshed.

How can a major paper in a self-proclaimed civilized society justify
killing 19 Palestinians including eight children and seven women and
wounding dozens when the Israeli military artillery shells struck a
residential area in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun? This massacre
was reported by Israeli daily newspaper Ha'aretz and other news
organizations on November 8, 2006, but similar incidents happen almost
daily in Gaza and the West Bank which is the home base of President Abbas.
The US news media never mentioned that Hamas had maintained a
sixteen-month cease-fire while Israel continued its incursion attacks on
the Palestinians and the media never even questioned the purpose of such
attacks. The media, however, calls any Palestinian use of force as
"terrorism", even if it is directed against military targets.

Ethan Bronner, deputy foreign editor of the Times and the main commentator
on the Arab-Israel conflict has endorsed in writing the notion of the
Zionist activist Allan Dershowitz that "evenhandedness" in the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict "should be abandoned as a matter of
principle". Dershowitz wrote in his book "the Case of Israel", "If the
United States were ever to become as even-handed as the international
community has been, it would surely encourage continuing aggression
against the Jewish state". The book that has been endorsed by Bronner
rejects the concept that Israeli Jews and Palestinians should have equal
rights within the territory of historical Palestine because according to
them Israel occupies more legal and moral status relative to the
Palestinians. Further more, Bronner agrees with Dershowitz that Noam
Chomsky's sympathy with the Palestinians in his book "The Faitful
Triangle" is a form of support for extremism simply because Chomsky as a
historian recognizes the Palestinians' right to have a state of their own
on 22 percent of their historic homeland. Recognition of any Palestinians'
rights has become extremism and even anti-Semitism in the US, thanks to
the media.

When Israel withdrew its military and dismantled its settlement in Gaza,
the US news media labeled it in so many articles as the end of Gaza
occupation and that the Palestinians should be grateful for such Israeli
painful concession. The news reporters and commentators did not explain to
their audience and readers that Gaza continues to be a big prison and its
inhabitants are still under occupation after the withdrawal. The Gazans
are doomed to live in poverty surrounded by the Israeli military machine
from the sea, the land and air, and if a group within the territory breaks
the rules laid down by Israel, the whole population will be subjected to
collective punishment. With the support of the US and the news media, the
Israeli military campaign in Gaza and the West Bank continues to kill and
wound Palestinians on daily basis. The US media does not refer to such
attacks and the act of border closures by Israel that leads to major
shortages of basic supplies, as a human rights violation according to
Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Article 33 explicitly forbids
"collective penalties" and punishment "for an offense he or she has not
personally committed" but the US media calls the starving of a nation and
denying their sick the medicine they need to stay alive, self-defense.

US media ignores reference to UN resolutions that apply to the conflict
and it does not mention incriminating facts against Israel presented by
the human rights organizations including those in Israel itself. The media
does not care to publish or quote people like the Israeli commentator
Amira Hass who dared to ask the researchers of Nazism and the Holocaust
and Soviet gulags "could it be that you [the researchers] side with
further expropriation of lands and the demolition of additional orchards,
for another settler neighborhood and another exclusively Jewish road? That
you all back the shelling and missile fire killing the old and the young
in the Gaza Strip?"

The media never challenged the Israel-US insistence on basing the peace
process exclusively on the gimmicks of 2003 Roadmap, rather than the
international laws as a reference. Disregarding the international laws on
the fundamental issues has transformed the peace talks into bargaining
process based on facts on the ground created by Israel illegally as an
occupying power according to international laws. UN General Assembly
Resolution 194 was the condition attached to Israel's admission to the UN
as a member. As an international law, it called upon Israel to allow
repatriation of those Palestinians who had fled or been expelled and
compensate those who choose to remain outside Israel. Israel has rejected
it to preserve its Jewish identity, President Bush declared his support to
the Israeli position and the US media never questioned its legality.

The fourth Geneva Convention calls for the protection of civilians during
war or under occupation. Article 49 of the fourth Geneva Convention
prohibits an occupying power from establishing settlements occupied by its
nationals. And it prohibits population transfer that alters the character
of the occupied land. Israel ignored the Convention and established more
than 200 Jewish only settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem protected
by the Israeli military. The media does not explain that most of
Palestinian violence against the Israelis is triggered by the provocative
presence of these settlements. Occupying power is not permitted to alter
patterns of beneficial use of resources in the occupied land, but Israel
has diverted most of the water from aquifers under the West Bank for use
in Israel and the Jewish only settlements.Peace with justice will not be
achieved as long as the behavior of the parties to the conflict is not
appraised by the media equally based on the rules of the international

MIAMI--Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who will mark his 40th year in power on
January 1, has lasted through eight U.S. presidencies. Some of America's
efforts to dislodge him are well known, especially the Bay of Pigs
invasion and the CIA's infamous assassination plots involving poison
cigars, an exploding seashell, botulin pills, and Mafia hit men in the
early 1960s. But the full history of U.S. attempts to unseat Castro
remained sealed in government files until this year. During the course of
1998, an estimated 10,000 pages of documents have been quietly
declassified.

One of the most startling documents--disclosed here for the first time--is
an April 10, 1962, memo from the Joint Chiefs of Staff to Secretary of
Defense Robert McNamara urging that U.S. troops invade Cuba. Attached to
it is a list of incidents that could be fabricated and blamed on Castro to
justify an attack. The proposals were drawn up at the behest of the
Kennedy administration, which remained obsessed with toppling Castro even
after the Bay of Pigs fiasco, in which the CIA recruited and trained 2,600
Cuban exiles for a disastrous beach landing on April 17, 1961.

Pretexts for invasion. In the 1962 memo, Lyman Lemnitzer, then chairman of
the Joint Chiefs, argued that "the Cuban problem must be solved in the
near future" and that "military intervention by the United States will be
required to overthrow the present communist regime." A five-page addendum,
titled "Pretexts to Justify U.S. Military Intervention in Cuba," presented
several options. Among them:

Fake an attack on the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo, Cuba, with friendly
Cubans masquerading as attackers. They would lob mortars, burn buildings,
and destroy aircraft before being captured. A variation: "Sink ship near
harbor entrance. Conduct funerals for mock-victims."

Arrange for an unmanned vessel to be blown up near a major Cuban city.
Americans would pretend to rescue members of the nonexistent crew, and
"casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national
indignation." The document calls this the "Remember the Maine" scenario,
after the battleship that exploded in Havana's harbor in 1898, sparking
the Spanish-American War.

Stage a "Communist Cuban terror campaign" in the Miami area. "We could
sink a boatload of Cubans en route to Florida (real or simulated)," the
Joint Chiefs suggested. "We could foster attempts on lives of Cuban
refugees in the United States even to the extent of wounding in instances
to be widely publicized."

Plant arms in a Caribbean country and send in jets painted to look like
Cuban MiGs, creating the appearance of a "Cuban-based, Castro-supported"
subversion.

Blow up an unmanned U.S. plane that would surreptitiously replace a
charter flight of civilians, all provided with "carefully prepared
aliases" so that they could disappear. The Cubans would then be blamed for
downing a passenger plane. In one variation, unwitting U.S. pilots would
pick up parachutes and phony crash debris scattered by a submarine or
small boat.

"Although these schemes were never implemented, it is clear that the
Pentagon was champing at the bit to invade Cuba," says Peter Kornbluh,
director of the Cuba Documentation Project at the National Security
Archive, a nonprofit research institute in Washington.

The Joint Chiefs were not the only ones who had come to believe that a
full-scale invasion was necessary. In a 1961 assessment of the Bay of
Pigs, declassified this summer, one of the operation's military planners,
Col. Jack Hawkins, concluded that: "Further efforts to develop armed
internal resistance, or to organize Cuban exile forces, should not be made
except in connection with a planned overt intervention by United States
forces."

That opinion was echoed in what may be the most important of the newly
released documents, the CIA inspector general's report on the Bay of Pigs.
This scathing internal critique has just been published this month with
related documents in a book by Kornbluh, Bay of Pigs Declassified, which
also includes an interview with Hawkins and the operational chief of the
Bay of Pigs invasion, Jacob Esterline. In it, Esterline says he was
disgusted at having to make payments for a mob hit on Castro. As more
secrets trickle out, even spymasters may get a shock or two.

Bin Laden may be dead, but living on through old sound bites

U.S. intelligence agencies are beginning to suspect that Al Qaida leader
Osama Bin Laden is dead after all, despite a recent audio tape exhorting
Al Qaida terrorists in Iraq.

The Al Qaida leader who was the main force behind the September 11, 2001
attacks on New York and Washington, was last heard on an audio tape
released Dec. 30. The tape mentioned Iraqis who are opposing Al Qaida, but
there has been no specific time referenced from his last two messages. An
earlier message in October also exhorted Al Qaida to fight in Iraq.

Questions about Bin Laden are being raised by intelligence officials who
say that without a specific time mark with a photo of Bin Laden, his
presence cannot be confirmed and the most recent statements could have
been put together from older audio.

Al Qaida operates a very sophisticated propaganda operations that includes
the use of audio and videotape messages to rally followers and to recruit
new jihadists.

The new analysis of Bin Laden follows the death of No. 3 Al Qaida leader
Abu Laith Al Libi, who was killed last week in a CIA-led operation in
Pakistan that involved an armed unmanned aerial vehicle attack.

Asked about U.S. military or intelligence involving in the terrorist
killing, Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told
reporters: "I'm not going to talk any more about the operational side of
this, of how that in fact occurred."

Mullen called al Libi a key figure in Al Qaida and said "elimination of
someone like that is a very important outcome in terms of this long war."

Mullen also said safe havens for Al Qaida in Pakistan remain a concern and
to be able to conduct an operation in the area was "important."

9-11 Has No Clothes

There once was a very arrogant president who loved power, war, and the
finest clothes. After taking office following a bitterly contested
election, he would awake each morning wondering how he could gain even
more power, greater authority, go to war, and what he would wear that day.
"Good morning Mr. President," his Secretary of State would say. "Your
people need better housing, food, schools and cheap gas. How do you plan
to help them?"

"The heck with the people," the president would say. "They did not elect
me! Why should I care about what they need? I want to make my tax cuts for
the wealthiest 1% of the people permanent!" Then he would ask, "How do I
look in this golfing outfit?"

One day, his Vice-President and the Secretary of Defense came to the oval
office. "Mr. President," the Secretary of Defense said, "We have thought
of a way to get everything we want from the people."

"Sounds great, what is it?" the president asked.

The Vice-President cleared his throat. "In order for us to do the things
we want to do and implement the plans and policies we want to put into
practice, the country needs to experience a catastrophic event," he said,
"sort of on the order of Pearl Harbor."

"That sounds terrible! HOW DARE YOU?" the commander-in-chief growled, then
started to like the idea. "But, how would we get away with it?" he grinned.

"He who controls the images controls public opinion," The Secretary of
Defense grinned back at him. "We will control the media so that even the
smartest and cleverest people in the world won't be able to see what's
really going on."

"But to do it right," the V.P. chimed in. "We will need the help of the
FBI, the CIA, and your good friends in the middle-east, the Saudi's."

"You will have the full support of my administration," the president
assured them. "Anyone who doesn't go along with our plan will be made to
look stupid and called unpatriotic, and they will no longer work for me!"
he told them. "By the way, do these shoes go with my new golf bag?"

Having approved their plan, the president secretly gave them everything
they needed, and as things started to happen the mass media and people in
his administration just ignored what was going on. The CIA and FBI didn't
even talk to each other.

One day, the National Security Advisor walked into the oval office for her
daily security briefing carrying a folder that read, "Bin Laden determined
to attack!"

"Do you like my new blazer?" the president asked as she walked in.

Using a bit of contemporary slang for that time, the sista' answered, "Oh,
Mr. President, that jacket is to die for," she complimented, then praised
him even more for the flashy, blood red tie he selected to go with it.
They started talking about clothes and shoes and never even looked at what
was inside the folder.

Meanwhile, a dedicated and hard working FBI agent noticed there were some
men with possible terrorist ties taking flight lessons at a flying school
in Florida.

The flustered flight instructors complained that these men only wanted to
learn how to take off and fly and did not even care about how to land the
plane. She informed her superiors of this and was warned not to worry
about it and told to get back to work.

In the months that followed, many other warning dots would be pointed out,
but not connected until, ironically, it was too late. On the morning of
September 11th, 2001, thousands of telephones actually dialed 9-1-1 to
report a series of deadly emergencies…

The twin towers both imploded after being hit by hijacked airplanes,
falling in on themselves like a controlled demolition, but the media said
that's not what happened.

"It looked like a controlled demolition to me," said a little boy, but
nobody listened. They did not want to be called stupid and unpatriotic, so
everyone just accepted the media's explanation.

There were no pieces of 757 airplanes, luggage or bodies to be seen at the
Pentagon or at the Shanksville crash site in Pennsylvania.

"Those don't look like plane crashes to me," said a little girl. "Oh, but
they are," the media insisted, and once again, everyone agreed with the
people on TV.

One day, the little boy and little girl met up and started talking. "If
flight 77 didn't crash into the Pentagon and Flight 93 wasn't taken over
by the passengers and purposely crashed in that field? What happened to
those planes and all those people?" the little boy asked.

"I've wondered about that myself," the little girl mused. "And tell me
this…how could Bin Laden shut down our air defense system, knock down
three buildings, including one that wasn't hit by an airplane, and make
the planes you're talking about disappear over our controlled airspace,
while he was hiding in a cave in Bora Bora?" she asked, and the FBI killed
them both for being stupid and unpatriotic.

At a press conference later that day to sign the Patriot Act and Homeland
Security into law, and to make his case for taking the country to war, the
president wore a new suit, but 9/11 still had no clothes.

of 7/7, it's probably because you haven't had an opportunity to see the
following evidence. The smoking gun may actually be much closer to home
than we previously thought. On 7/7 a number of unbelievable coincidences
and irregularities took place which should warrant a full investigation
and although the responsibility rests on our government and law
enforcement to bring this story to light, it is also in the best interests
of every member of the public to demand a full and transparent report on
these events.

If an independent investigation were to be re-opened, the first call
should be made to the heads of Visor Consultants in London. Peter Power,
Managing Director of Visor Consultants, a private firm on contract to the
London Metropolitan Police, described in a BBC interview how he had
organized and conducted the anti-terror drill, on behalf of an "unnamed
business client". The fictional scenario that Visor were running that
morning was based on simultaneous bombs going off at exactly the same
time... at the underground stations where the real attacks were occurring.
If investigators were able to find out the name of Visor's unnamed
business client, they would be one step closer to explaining what really
happened that day.

Long serving members of the Britain's government and intelligence agencies
have come out in public and declared the government's involvement in the
events of 7/7, but they cries have been virtually ignored by the
mainstream press.

In almost identical fashion, a set of 9/11 war games took place, based on
hijacked jets hitting the exact same targets at the exact same time as the
real events which took place. These war games are generally ignored in the
official 9/11 story, and when pressed, the claim is made by officials(like
on 7/7) that some of the war games 'helped speed the response' to the
situation. Now we can see a real pattern emerging. The media and the 9/11
Commission Report did not dare prepare a full list of all of the war games
underway that morning, even though all of them have been mentioned in some
sort of official context or mainstream media article. Like on 7/7, it is
difficult to believe that it is a bizarre 'coincidence' that the military
and CIA were conducting identical war games similar to 9/11 on September
11, 2001. Many other irregularities that don't jibe with the official
reports took place on both days, and can easily fill more pages than we
have space to write in here. All of these points are available to the
public to research on the web.

It would strike any educated person with some common sense, that the odds
of identical war games taking place on both those days where the very same
'terrorist' attacks took place- are beyond astronomical. To say that the
US and Britain were simply "unlucky" on 9/11 and 7/7 is an almost surreal
proposition. Experts have calculated these odds with standard actuary
tables used by major insurance companies, to calculate the probability of
terror drills and actual attack events coinciding in a 10 year mean and it
was "one in 300 pretagillion". That's a number greater than the number of
grains of sand on this planet. My answer to the official story: too many
questions and not enough answers.

History has proven beyond a doubt that the majority of "Terrorism" and
terrorist incidents we have witnessed since WWII are in fact
State-sponsored terror. There is now enough official declassified evidence
available to the public which document this disturbing trend of "False
Flag" attacks by Western Governments. Documented examples include the
Reichstag Fire(sparked Hitler's rise to power), Operation Ajax(1953 CIA
Coup in Iran), the Gulf of Tonkin Incident(our excuse to escalate the
Vietnam War), USS Liberty incident (Israel's destruction of a decorated US
ship during the Six Day War) and Operation Gladio- the CIA & NATO's terror
operations in Italy which culminated in the infamous Bologna Bombing of
1980. All these events provided the context for a major conflict, the
installation of an authoritarian regime, or to further a wider global
agenda. In each and every case, the media covered the initial lie, while
history eventually revealed the truth. All each case, the government and
the media immediately produced a set of terrorists or culprits and in
every case, history eventually found them to be innocent of those crimes.
In the case of 7/7 and 9/11, the same principles can also apply.

Repeated attempts by the families, first responders and fire fighters of
9/11 to re-open the investigation to events on the day, have all fell on
deaf ears. George Bush went on national TV and declared, "Let us not
tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories", and Tony Blair echoed his
position in Britain, claiming that the nation "are traumatised and must
move on from the events of 7/7", in effect squashing all independent
attempts to re investigate numerous irregularities on the day. A
mainstream CNN poll show that 90% of Americans believe there is a US
Government cover-up surrounding 9/11. With this level of public discontent
now in the open, perhaps it would be a good time for the people in both
the US and Britain to demand a full and open independent investigation
into both events and 9/11 and 7/7. With so much at stake, and with so much
now invested in our alleged new enemy, brand "Al Qeada", both populations
deserve nothing less than all the facts laid out in a transparent manner
by our own authorities.

We should all take more than a casual interest in the events on 7/7 and
9/11 because the official interpretation of these events have, in so many
ways, reshaped the very fabric of our society and have all but destroyed
our Bill of Rights. The hands of our Western governments' intelligence
agencies reach into areas which many ordinary members of the public can
neither understand nor fathom- yet these are all paid for by our taxes and
are meant to be accountable to the people. It's a very dark road we are
being led down- if we do not turn the current illusion around. The price
we are paying abroad is huge, but the price we are paying at home is
practically unknowable. Think about the changes we have seen in our own
societies, and where those changes are taking us.

Don't take my word for it. Do your own research and discuss these
important issue with friends, colleagues and family. Wake up world.

"...Veli Kucuk, a retired major general, was allegedly plotting to kill (Turkish author) Pamuk, Turkish newspapers reported. Kucuk is suspected of running a secret unit within police forces that carried out bombings and killings for which other groups were widely blamed. Also arrested was Kemal Kerincsiz, a nationalist lawyer responsible for numerous cases against Pamuk, Dink and other intellectuals. None of the suspects have spoken about the charges.

Most Turks have long suspected the existence of a covert web of elements within the security forces and bureaucracy who act outside the law to uphold their own political ends. There is even a household name for it: the "deep state," referring to a state within the state.

Newspapers have suggested that this network is the Turkish remnant of Gladio, a Cold War-era program, orchestrated by the U.S. in several NATO countries, to create a covert paramilitary force to counter Communist activities.

Although TIME won't say it, the Turkish network was framing Muslims;

The detention in Istanbul last week of alleged members of a shadowy Turkish ultranationalist group has revived charges that elements within the Turkish security apparatus have long tried to destabilize the country through a campaign of bombings and assassinations. These allegedly include false flag operations that have been attributed to Kurdish separatists and violent Islamists.

Framing Muslims sure is trendy these days. In December of 2007, the BBC* program Newsnight exposed British think tank "Policy Exchange" fabricating evidence tying Muslim owned bookstores to "extremist" literature, you can view the broadcast on YouTube;

Policy Exchange immediately tried to spin the story... bad move. The Newsnight editor, Peter Barron, went on the attack;

In October Newsnight had been due to run an exclusive report on the findings and Policy Exchange had given us the receipts to corroborate their claim that a quarter of the 100 mosques their researchers had visited were selling hate literature.

On the planned day of broadcast our reporter Richard Watson came to me and said he had a problem. He had put the claim and shown a receipt to one of the mosques mentioned in the report - The Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in London. They had immediately denied selling the book and said the receipt was not theirs.

We decided to look at the rest of the receipts and quickly identified five of the 25 which looked suspicious. They appeared to have been created on a home computer, rather than printed professionally as you would expect. The printed names and addresses of some of the mosques contained simple errors and two of the receipts purportedly from different mosques appeared to have been written by the same hand.

In the days that followed we focused further on the five receipts about which we had concerns and eventually asked a forensic scientist to analyse them. This is what we found.

1. In all five cases the mosques involved said the receipts did not belong to them.

2. The expert analysis showed that all five had been printed on an inkjet printer - suggesting they were created on a PC.

3. The analysis found "strong evidence" that two of the receipts were written by the same person.

4. The analysis found that one of the receipts had been written out while resting on another receipt said to be from a mosque 40 miles away.

Mr Godson says he stands by his report 100%. I also stand by our report 100%. I don't think we can both be right.

Busted.

Earlier in December, Egypt stood accused of fabricating the "Victorious Sect" terror group. A bunch of patsies were rounded up, and tortured until they signed "confessions".

In the United States, Rolling Stone has revealed that the FBI/JTTF has lots of time on their hands;

"...Like many other alleged extremists who have been targeted by the authorities, Shareef didn't know that his brand-new friend —the eager co-conspirator drawing him ever further into a terror plot —was actually an informant for the FBI...

...The expenditure of such massive resources to find would-be terrorists inevitably requires results. Plots must be uncovered. Sleeper cells must be infiltrated. Another attack must be prevented —or, at least, be seen to be prevented. But in backwaters like Rockford, the JTTFs don't have much to do. To find threats to thwart, the task forces have increasingly taken to using paid informants to cajole and inveigle targets like Shareef into pursuing their harebrained schemes...

...In Rockford, "Jameel" repeatedly urged Shareef to dream up gory details of the havoc they would cause at the mall. Chrisman had received a call, he told Shareef, from a man he called "Cap" —a contact willing to sell them weapons. They could buy "pineapples" —code for hand grenades —from Cap for fifty bucks each. Cap, of course, was an undercover agent...

...On the following Saturday, as snow blanketed Rockford, Chrisman and Shareef engaged in the ritual of suicide bombers, recording video statements of each other reciting their last wills and testaments. The JTTF's affidavit doesn't reveal whose idea it was to stare into the camera and swear vengeance against America, but the prejudicial impact it would have on a jury was huge...

An FBI informant helping out with the production of infamous "last will" radical Muslim videos. How charming. It puts the 7/7 suicide bomber videos under a new light, doesn't it?

And what of Jose Padilla?

Jose Padilla, the first United States citizen in the “War on Terror” to have his constitutional rights stripped from him by a stroke of George W. Bush’s pen, was sentenced today to 17 years and four months in Miami by Federal Court Judge Marcia Cooke, five and a half years after his arrest. The charges—this time—were that he and two others conspired to murder, kidnap and maim individuals in a foreign country, as well as conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, and providing material support to terrorists. The prosecution never named any specific individual or nation where this violence was to have occurred.

The Padilla case is central to the question of whether President Bush, CIA chief George Tenet and others lied when they said “the United States does not torture.” Judge Cooke, a protégé of both Jeb and George Bush, refused to allow the showing of videotapes of Padilla being questioned and probably tortured during his three and a half years in solitary confinement in a Naval brig in Charleston, South Carolina...

Prior to the start of the trial, the prosecution revealed it had 78 videotapes of Padilla’s interrogation in the Naval brig; although the final tape, the 78th, according to the prosecution, had somehow turned up “missing.” Despite the current controversy over the CIA’s destruction of tapes showing severe “interrogation techniques” (a k a “torture”) used on two Al Qaeda suspects—one of whom, Abu Zubaydah, was said to have named Padilla as a terrorist in training—Cooke was only mildly distressed about the missing tape. Though she had the option of insisting the Government produce the tape or dismiss one or more of the charges against Padilla, she never exercised it. She also threatened harsh sanctions against defense attorneys caught leaking the contents of any of the 77 tapes.

Cooke did, however, exercise her judicial discretion to prevent psychiatric defense experts from fully explaining the extent of the damage to Padilla’s mental health.

Government-funded research over the past half century has shown that sensory deprivation is a technique that produces a near-psychotic break, sometimes in less than 24 hours. Padilla experienced such conditions for three and a half years. His defense attorneys, based on expert psychiatric evaluations, argued that such a duration of relentless questioning and isolation—which included extreme sensory deprivation—had driven him to a state where he could not assist his attorneys in his defense.

If radical Islamists are such a scourge, why the hell are governments around the world, (and right-wing outfits like Policy Exchange), exagerrating and flat-out faking the threat?
